Should I plant this pineapple top in water or straight into soil?

I’ve got a pineapple top with some roots starting to show. Do I put it in water first or go straight into soil? I’m new to this, so any advice would help!

If it already has roots, soil is the way to go. Water is better when there are no roots at all. Soil gives roots a stable environment and prevents rot.

Thanks for explaining! I’m just confused because so many places say both options work but don’t explain why one is better.

I’ve grown a bunch of these. Trust me, go with soil. It’s simpler, and you’ll avoid extra work.

I see lots of tutorials recommending water, but honestly, soil is less hassle. Just plant it directly!

Same thing with avocados. Those toothpick and water jar setups rarely work well. Planting straight in soil gives stronger roots.

No such thing as a dumb question. Everyone has to start somewhere!

Soil is probably better for this.

I’d go with soil. Even a fresh crown usually has tiny roots hiding under the leaves. Just make sure to plant it upright and keep it watered.

Don’t call it dirt—use soil! Dirt lacks the nutrients and microbes plants need, but soil is alive and full of good stuff.

Thank you! People calling soil ‘dirt’ drives me nuts.

Definitely a soil job.

I always use a root stimulator and then plant in soil. Never had any issues.

Soil.

Looks good to plant straight into soil!

I pull off the bottom leaves, place it in water for a week, then move to rich soil once roots are about an inch long. It’s worked every time for me!

Soil all the way.

Just plant it in soil.

I’ve always just planted them in soil, kept it moist, and they’ve grown fine.
