Why are my hydrangea blooms green?

Despite using Miracle Gro Bloom Booster, my hydrangea blooms remain green. I’ve even tried putting pennies in the pot. My husband thinks it’s because I spread eggshells on all my plants. Please tell me he’s not right, lol! Any insights?

Green hydrangeas are actually a thing! Apparently, you can buy hydrangea coloring. I had no idea, but now I want to try it myself.

Why would it change from beautiful blue blooms to green? It’s so strange, and I can’t figure it out!

Ah, I didn’t realize that. Maybe it just reverted to its basic genes. I would guess that green is the original color before we started selectively breeding for the mutations we have now.

My blue hydrangeas always turn green with a hint of purple in late summer. They’re still gorgeous!

First, you need to know the exact variety you planted. All issues are related to that variety—your hardiness zone, soil condition, etc. Growing in a container is another factor to consider. I hope we can help you here!

When I used the plant identifier on my phone, it just said hydrangea, lol. It’s been in the same conditions as when I brought it home. The soil seems fine for the other plants in that area, but I’ve never tested it. Thank you! I really want to see those beautiful blue blooms again.

You need to know the variety of your hydrangea. Eggshells and pennies are irrelevant.
