Where can I find some rare or native potatoes to grow?

I’ve been looking for some rare or native potato varieties to plant in my garden, but I can’t seem to find any. Does anyone here have experience with these or know where I could get some?

I’ve been ordering from Cultivariable for years. Their potatoes and sunchokes are amazing. Highly recommend them for rare tubers!

That site reminded me of a video I watched about native potatoes. Turns out the guy fell for an urban legend though.

@Kiran
Lol, love how you wrote that.

Never seen that site before. Thanks for sharing!

All potatoes originally come from the Andes in South America.

Native potato’s what?

Potatoes are indigenous to the Andes, and there are hundreds of varieties.

Or Nativeland.

Thanks to everyone who helped! When I said native potatoes, I meant varieties that are rare outside the Andes. I learned about them in a nutrition class where my professor called them ‘papas nativas,’ so I assumed that was the common term. I hope that clears up any confusion. Again, thanks so much!

What do you mean by native?

Wow, I didn’t know there were so many types of potatoes! Dumb question, but do they all taste like regular potatoes?

Oca has a sweet-tangy flavor. It’s amazing but hard to grow in some climates.

Okay, new obsession unlocked! :joy:

I’d love to grow these rare varieties, but importing them to the EU sounds risky.
