Hi everyone I hope this is allowed here but if not I will delete it!
My wife has recently gotten into vegetable gardening over the past year. We have built two large garden boxes, and we are planning to build her another one soon. She also has a couple of smaller deck railing boxes for her herbs. She grew a lot of things last year and wants to grow even more this year. This has become one of her favorite hobbies and she really enjoys it.
So, I’m looking for gift ideas related to her love for vegetable gardening. Since I don’t really know any other gardeners, I thought I’d ask for suggestions here! It can be fun items, practical tools, or just ideas of things to look for.
@Lorin
That is UNCANNY. I thought, ‘I should recommend Gardener’s Supply Company, especially the tomato ladders.’ No need for me to repeat it.
Still, I agree with you! Gardener’s Supply Co is a great place to keep in mind - they’re employee-owned, B-certified, and they offer many recycled and earth-friendly products. I love them and have to avoid their sale section or I’d spend too much.
I love having a collection of gardening books to look at in winter.
Seed trays, grow lights, heat mats, and gift cards to seed companies would also be great. Just a bit biased since it’s almost seed starting season for me!
A good wheelbarrow with two front wheels instead of one, gardening gloves with leather palms that fit well, a gardening tool belt, a harvesting pouch, a compost bin, or a delivery from chipdrop would all be useful.
Ask her about any projects she wants to tackle, and buy her the materials she’ll need. (And help her with it!) For instance, my husband and I are about to build and landscape an outdoor firepit that I’ve been wanting to do for a while lol. While it’s not directly related to vegetable gardening, I think gardening is about engaging with nature.
@Van
True. I have various shears, loopers, and a gardening saw. And I also have some Japanese pruners for cannabis, which I picked up a few seasons in.
Check with your local zoo to see if they have a compost pick-up day. We were able to visit our local zoo and get a truckload of composted manure! What’s not to love?
I didn’t expect so many helpful responses from everyone. You are all awesome, and the suggestions are excellent—thank you all!
I’m going to explore your ideas! I definitely think tools and accessories are the way to go and I love all the suggestions about working on projects together (which I already do but could probably do more). She is very organized in her garden planning and research, so buying plants and seeds might create too much chaos haha. Thanks again, everyone!
Maybe a gift card to a website with a wide selection of vegetable gardening supplies like Epic Gardening. That way, she can look for what she needs herself.
