Living in a small cabin, space is tight, but I convinced my husband to let me take over a whole room with a grow tent. My argument? Fresh basil for bruschetta and a little something extra—he finally gave in. 
That and the devils lettuce
Haha, I was thinking the same thing—my grocery store doesn’t carry that kind of “basil” either! You’re going to have so much basil. I grow different varieties every year. Did you know there are types that smell like lime, lemon, or even cinnamon? The flowers are great for bees too. Sometimes I catch bumblebees napping on them, and it’s adorable.

We’re planning to thin them out a bit to keep them manageable. I grew six types last summer—didn’t care much for the anise-heavy ones but loved the lemon variety. This time I’ve got three kinds in the mix.
One year I grew so much basil, I didn’t know what to do with it all. I ended up with two trash bags full and turned it all into pesto to freeze. Grocery store prices would’ve made it worth thousands!
Make sure to prune it so it grows bushier instead of taller. Just pinch off the flowers.
Also… I see something in your grow tent that’s definitely NOT basil. Second tray from the left.

Same here—our stores never have basil! I planted six Genovese plants and got another type from my mom that grows into full-on bushes. Can’t wait for spaghetti nights!

Really? I thought it was just our area! Thyme is hit or miss at the store too.

I planted Thai basil six years ago in my garden beds, and now it reseeds itself every year. It’s everywhere, and I love it.
