Does this indicate that the soil is healthy? arguing about whether or not I should have chosen them. Please let me know if you know the species and whether these are helpful.
This might be Gallerina Marginata, also known as the Funeral Bell, which shows it is toxic. Definitely not something to eat unless you want to experience extreme discomfort. But with any fungus, it’s hard to tell for sure just from a photo.
The Funeral Bell is a wood-rotting fungus. This doesn’t really indicate if your soil is healthy, other than saying the conditions are right for that fungus to grow.
@Sam
Thanks a lot for the info
@Sam
You can actually identify mushrooms from pictures, and these photos are decent for that! I’m not an expert, but you can ask the folks at r/mycology or r/ShroomID for help if you want

You can make a good guess from a photo, and some species are hard to confuse with anything else. However, there are edible species that can look a lot like toxic ones and require spore prints and other methods to tell them apart.
@Sam
Spore prints are usually optional, and you can also take a picture of them for identification.

Okay I’ll find a random mushroom in the woods and send you a picture. Then you can tell me if it looks safe to eat. Are you still feeling confident or only when it’s not your own life on the line
@Sawyer
I never said to eat it, nor did I suggest anyone should just follow my advice. I mentioned that I’m not able to identify confidently from photos and directed them to experts who can help. Even those experts suggest caution and not relying on their advice alone for what to eat.
I usually see them as a good sign. If mycelium is happy enough to grow and create fruiting bodies in my soil, I feel good about it. But you didn’t have to pick them, they would break down and feed your soil, plus they look really nice.
@Archer
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
If you eat it, you’ll regret it.

Not anymore haha
Finding a mushroom and claiming the organism has died is like picking an apple and saying the tree has died.
