I’m up north where it’s super cold. I take cuttings from each variety and root them. They root so easily, just with water and a bit of rooting hormone! In a few weeks, I pot them, and by spring, each ‘mother’ plant gives me 10 more plants or so!
@Kiran
Yep, you can keep them on a kitchen windowsill all winter and replant in the spring… no greenhouse needed!
Good plan! Covering them and keeping them in a sunny spot can help them survive.

Already brought mine inside for the season.

Mine are too big and I have too many to bring inside… wish I could!
@Fifer
I just have two, and they’re in large pots I transplanted recently. They’re doing well so far.
@Kiran
Or just water!! They root super easily!
I accidentally broke a big branch off one and just threw it in a nursery cup with a bit of dirt and water. Forgot about it, but it rooted and thrived! It’s got its own pot now.
@Echo
Coleus are so resilient!
@Echo
That’s why I love them! They’re so forgiving.
@Kiran
This is definitely the way to go.

Thank you!
@Kiran
I should have done this. I’m in Minnesota, and mine grew huge this year! Now I’ll have to replace them all in spring

Definitely try it next year. One plant in spring can give you about 10 new ones! Saves so much money, and they make great houseplants.
@Kiran
I will! Didn’t realize it was so easy. Worst part for me is all the packaging when I have to reorder!
@Kiran
Thanks for the advice!

That’s some real dedication. Well done!
They really enjoyed the spot I picked for them in my yard. They did better than I expected, especially since coleus usually struggle in full sun!
@Kiran
Yep, take cuttings AND cover your plants outside. If temps are above freezing, uncover them to get some sun. They might make it through winter, and if not, you’ll have backups!

Thank you! I’ll try it.
