In my first year, they all got blossom rot. In the second year, they were lost to a heatwave/drought just as they started to fruit. Last year, my volunteer plant was taken by hornworms. This year, I got my partner to watch for hornworms and water regularly (I don’t even like tomatoes; I tried growing them just for him), and we finally had some edible success! They aren’t very big, but I’m told they’re tasty. This year was also a volunteer plant because, for some reason, when I put in the early effort, I get nothing, lol.
Congratulations! They look fantastic!
Thanks! I wish I had a banana for scale, lol. They’re small, but bigger than cherry tomatoes, so I’m satisfied.
Same here! I’ve tried growing tomatoes for years and always ended up killing them, and unlike you, I love tomatoes.
But not this year! I got some new planters, and now I have an actual harvest. I’m so happy about it!
Your tomatoes look fantastic!
Thanks! All I did was ignore it until it started flowering, then I began feeding it once a month. Maybe they’d be bigger if I followed the package instructions and fed it every 7-14 days, lol.
Happy harvesting to you too!
I’m so happy for you! It took me 4 years to grow pumpkins, so I know the feeling of success after waiting so long to finally grow something.
Awesome! I have a friend who thought they were growing volunteer pumpkins, but it turned out to be decorative gourds. I was amazed at how huge the vine was! Kudos to you for dedicating the space and time to grow pumpkins. My yard could never handle it!
Nicely done! It was a rough season on the West Coast this year, especially in SoCal.
