What’s this red thing on my plant?

Those look like assassin bug eggs. They eat pests like aphids, so they’re actually good for your garden. Here’s a link to see more examples: examples.

Great answer! Let’s give some love to the assassin bug folks—upvotes for helpful info!

@Blaze
Wait… don’t these bugs carry some parasite that’s dangerous?

Wait, how do the eggs eat aphids? Do you mean after they hatch?

I think they just meant the bugs after they hatch.

Probably just a language mix-up. Let’s not be too harsh.

Definitely some kind of insect egg sac. You might want to ask on a bug identification forum and include the plant type and your location.

Based on their post history, I think they’re from Brisbane, Australia.

@Rey
If it’s Australia, the safest bet is to burn it. Everything there is trying to kill you.

Looks like assassin bug eggs, maybe from a species like Gminatus?

Those are probably eggs, but I’m not sure what kind of bug they’re from.

Can you eat them?

You can technically eat anything, but the real question is—should you?

@Taliesin
Everything’s edible once, right?

Haha, fair point.

If you’re lucky, maybe even more than once!

I don’t think they’re poisonous, so yeah… but try it at your own risk!

Just burn it all and start over. It’s the only way to be sure!

Classic line! Love that movie.

I think they’re assassin bug eggs. Are those bugs actually good for gardens?

Assassin bugs are great for pest control! Just don’t touch them, they’ll bite if you annoy them.
