I’m really curious… what made you start gardening? Was it something you planned, or did it just happen naturally? What made you keep going?
@Thorn
I totally get that. I was in a tough place too, stuck in a situation I hated. Planting seeds on my window sill was the one thing I felt I could control. It gave me hope when nothing else did.
@Thorn
Right there with you. It’s amazing how plants can bring peace.
@Thorn
Sometimes, something good can grow out of a tough time. Literally.
There was this little plant growing on our patio. My girlfriend said it was probably a tomato from the previous tenant’s garden. I took care of it for ages only to find out it was just a weed! After that, I swore to learn everything about plants, and here I am.
@Cameron
That’s hilarious! Thanks for the laugh.
@Cameron
As someone who also confused a weed for a plant, this gives me hope that I’m not alone!
@Cameron
Been there. You’re not the only one!
I drank way too much coffee and wanted to find a use for the grounds. That led to composting, which led to me having way too much compost, and so I started gardening to use it up.

So gardening is just your side hustle to composting? Love it.
@Jessie
Pretty much! My ADHD brain loves projects like this. It’s chaotic, but it works.

You started from the soil, literally.
Lost too many friends to cancer and wanted to grow high-antioxidant foods. It’s my way of fighting back.

What kind of foods do you grow?
For years, my yard was just dirt. After paying off my student loans, I hired someone to make it look nice, but then I realized I had to keep the plants alive. Over time, I started doing it myself and fell in love with the process. Now I’m redesigning everything little by little.
@Rowan
That’s amazing! Keep going!
I’ve always loved fruit—eating it, foraging for it, and dreaming of growing it. When I finally had space, I started with veggies and herbs, planted fruit trees, and learned through trial and error. These days, I’m also getting into native plants.
I wanted to turn my yard into something beautiful and useful, got into herbs through witchy stuff, and needed something I could control during a tough time. It’s been incredibly rewarding, and my seedlings just sprouted!
@Lior
Focusing on what you can control really resonates with me. Gardening is one of the few things where you see the results of your effort quickly.
@Lior
You just described me perfectly!
