Thinking about planting some garlic in the strip of soil on the right side of my garden

What do I need to think about I would love some tips on where to buy bulbs too Thanks

You can use garlic from the supermarket if you have to but for proper seed stock that is certified virus free, I got mine from Thompson & Morgan I ordered and paid for 2 bulbs and received 4 which was a nice surprise and they are all sprouting well and growing strong now The cloves should be spaced about 4 inches apart so they have space to grow Maybe add a little mulch Then you can just let them grow

Keep in mind that these will be in the ground until June or July They don’t look very nice since they are all leaves and no flowers unless you let them bolt and you won’t have much room for other plants around them

How much sunlight does that area get Garlic loves a sunny spot and it also likes loose soil with good compost that drains well Other than that, it is pretty easy to grow I fertilize mine a few times in spring but that’s about it It does not need watering in winter and doesn’t require much in spring and summer unless it gets really hot

Go for it, it’s worth a shot You should buy your garlic online since supermarket garlic is often treated to stop it from sprouting

Generally organic supermarket garlic isn’t treated The other points about diseases still apply but I’ve done it a few times and had decent success

You can find cheap bulbs in garden centers right now since they are selling off seasonal stock It’s best to plant them as far from the hedge as possible to avoid roots interfering with their growth Good luck it should look nice growing there

It’s winter

Winter is actually when garlic is usually planted It needs some cold to grow properly and form cloves
