@Colby
Did you mean ‘grafting’?
Yep, my bad. Grafting is taking a rootstock and inserting a cutting (scion) that grows as part of the rootstock.

He was just pointing out the typo, not asking for an explainer
@Dara
Haha, just realized that!

Whoa, really? Is it like this for all seeds? I took horticulture once, but I didn’t remember this
Some self-pollinating plants, like heirloom tomatoes, do grow true from seed. They’ve been cultivated to have matching genes across chromosomes.
So… how does it taste? Also, so cute you planted it at 4 years old!
Congrats! That patience paid off
Oh wow, congrats! Gardening really does teach patience haha
All my seed-grown avocado trees took about 10 years to bear fruit. I have 7 trees now, and they all produce fantastic avocados! I’m in Cape Town, South Africa.
20+ years? Wow!
What’s the taste like? That’s the true test.

I’d guess… it tastes like avocado?
How old is it? I’ve got six young ones growing but heard they take years to produce.

Yeah, you’re looking at at least 10 more years!
Wow, congratulations!
Good luck! Growing an avocado from seed can be hit or miss. Sometimes the fruit ends up watery, bland, or doesn’t ripen well. But who knows, you might’ve hit the jackpot!
Even if it’s not store-quality, growing a tree from seed is still an achievement. And you can always graft a branch from a tree with tasty fruit if you want to improve the quality down the line. Fingers crossed you got a winner!
Is it planted in the ground?
That’s amazing, congrats! Keep us posted on how it tastes!
My tree is 4 years old and already 7 feet tall! Can’t wait until it’s ready to produce fruit.
