Set up an indoor grow room in my basement for overwintering peppers!

You’ll need more light and proper air circulation. Add a fan and maybe a bucket of water for humidity. Replace the water daily.

Do I need a bucket of water if my basement is already humid?

@Linden
You’ll want humidity around 60-65%. Grab a cheap humidity meter from Amazon or a hardware store to measure it. If it’s already humid enough, you can skip the bucket.

If your basement is already humid, you might have other issues to deal with.

How do you keep the plants from getting ‘leggy’? Serious question.

@Jaden
In a basement, you’d need to circulate air well. Try opening a window with a fan pulling in air if possible. Inside the grow tent, aim for air to bounce off walls and hit plants indirectly.

It looks darker in the picture than it really is. I’ve got a little fan in there too, just out of frame. Never thought about the bucket of water—might give that a shot.

@Terry
It’s definitely too dark for proper fruiting. Get a lux meter—super cheap on Amazon—and make sure you have at least 50,000 lux for growing fruits or veggies. Good luck!

Thanks! I’ll order a lux meter and see what I can do. My friend mentioned he might give me a better grow light too, so fingers crossed.

You could grow some other plants in there too. :wink:

Those Costco racks are awesome!

You’ll need proper grow lights. Check out the Photone app and growlightmeter.com for DLI schedules. Bringing garden plants inside can be risky, but good luck!

My buddy might have an extra light for me, so hopefully I can upgrade soon!

Perfect setup for starting seeds next season—just add more light.

That’s the plan!

Looks nice, but I’m not sure it’s worth the cost for veggies. Grow lights and electricity can add up, especially when you factor in maintaining warmth and airflow.

Hoping the LEDs don’t use much power. It’s close to the furnace, so it stays warm without extra heating. Fingers crossed the electric bill isn’t too bad!

@Terry
You might need stronger lights for a larger area. Light intensity drops fast with distance, so keep that in mind. But hey, it’s a fun experiment!

I’m calling the cops.
