I took some cuttings of what I thought was mint… planting it in my garden is a bad idea, right?

@Mateo_Lopez
Gorgeous until it turns into a giant mess in winter.

Keep it in a pot. Keep the pot on concrete. If it touches soil, it’s game over. Ask me how I know. :man_facepalming:

The spearmint growing out of a crack in my concrete steps agrees with you. :joy:

The previous owner of my house planted mint in a raised bed in the backyard. Five years later, I found it growing in the front yard flower beds. Mint takes no prisoners.

Please don’t plant it in the ground. South Africa’s ecosystems are amazing—don’t risk messing them up with non-native plants.

Good point! Most of the garden is indigenous species, but I might skip planting this in the ground.

“Am I going to hate myself for this?” Yes. Yes, you are.

That looks like Russian sage, not mint.

It’s pennyroyal. I wish I could find Russian sage here!

Oh, you’re going to regret this. Big time. But the pollinators will love it, and so will your enemies if you give them the cuttings. :joy:

If it escapes the bed, it will take over. If you’re okay with that, go ahead!
