I finally have 15 nearly ripe lemons on my tiny potted lemon tree… meanwhile, zero green beans this year! Zone 7 folks, anyone else having a weird garden year?

So jealous of your lemons! Do you use any specific fertilizer? Also, is it a Meyer lemon tree?

I give it a good dose of fertilizer every week in the summer and sometimes a little extra if I have leftovers from other plants. Repotted it at the start of the season, too, so that probably helped. Tag just said “lemon tree,” though, so I’m not totally sure on the type!

@Hollis
Zone 7 here too! I’m amazed at how well it’s doing… must be all the care you put in!

Thank you so much! Everything else barely survived the heat this year, but this little lemon tree was thriving!

@Hollis
I add earthworms to mine, and they seem to help! Found a few wandering out once, but they mostly stay put as long as I water it monthly.

Great idea! Off to look up recipes now… thanks, and happy cake day!

I’m in western MA and got loads of pumpkins this year but no tomatoes. Last year was the opposite. Anyone else?

Same here, but I’m over in the EU! Last year was tomato heaven, but this year barely any tomatoes. Meanwhile, got tons of butternut squash. Congrats on your pumpkin harvest!

Zone 7a here! I’ve got 7 lemon trees from seed but still no fruit yet after all these years.

7 lemon trees? That’s amazing! I actually have two tiny seedlings that sprouted accidentally in my compost pile, so I potted them up. This big one is about 12 years old and just started producing good lemons this year!

@Hollis
Haha, sounds like a global warming gift. This is my first comment here… can you see my first post?

Yep, I can see it! If it’s the pretty white flower, you might want to post it in the flowers section too. People there are super helpful!

How do you manage overwintering your seedlings? I keep mine in an unheated greenhouse, but they struggle.

@Haru
I bring them inside by a sunny bay window during winter.

Your lemon tree is a powerhouse!

I’m as surprised as anyone! It’s a small tree in a tiny pot, so I didn’t expect much. Pleasantly surprised!

Looks like it’s a happy surprise, for sure!
