Saw this beautiful pomegranate tree at a botanical garden in LA. Anyone have an idea how old it might be?
I’m guessing it’s around 20 to 25 years old.
I don’t think it’s older than 30 years. Jim Barrett has been working with bonsai ceramics for that long. I bet they have the date if you ask the garden.

Maybe, but he could’ve gotten it as a more mature tree or from good stock.
Unless there’s a way to make it look older, it has to be pretty old. I’ve seen mature trees with less twisted stems. But those bonsai people are really creative, so I wouldn’t rule out something like grafting or plant surgeries making it look like that.
I’d guess at least 40 years, probably more. Likely grown from a solid base stock.
I’ll go with 40+ years.
Is this the Huntington Gardens?
