Harvested my sweet potatoes just in time for Thanksgiving

I finally harvested my sweet potatoes, just in time for Thanksgiving! They’re not the biggest ones ever, but I’m excited to have them for the holiday. Who else is getting their harvest ready?

Nice! One year I had a couple as big as a baby’s head. Still tasted amazing.

Wow, those are huge! Post what you make with them too. I can’t wait to get to that level of success.

I’ll post on Thursday, but honestly, it’s super easy. You just plant them and let them grow, no real skill involved.

I love sweet potatoes!

Awesome!! I’m going to bake one of mine tomorrow to see how it tastes! I hope yours are delicious!

There’s something special about homegrown sweet potatoes. You’re really living the dream with this farm-to-table experience!

That’s the plan!

Don’t forget to cure them properly!

I’m curing the ones I won’t use this week, but for Thanksgiving, I’m just going to boil and add extra sugar to the casserole to make up for the late harvest.

Sounds delicious. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Nice harvest!

That’s so impressive! Nothing beats homegrown sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving!

Mine just grew a lot of leaves. There was one decent-sized potato, and the rest were tiny. I ended up just leaving them to enrich the soil for next year. It was a disappointment.

You need to bury the leaves and vines when they get out of control. Also, your soil might be too fertile. Sweet potatoes do best in sandy soil with less compost and lots of phosphorus and potassium.

@Zen
Thanks! I’ll try burying the foliage next year and see if that helps.

Some of those kind of look like turkeys. Great job, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Nice harvest! Did you grow them in containers?

Nope! I just planted some slips straight in the ground and covered them with mulch.
