I had just finished typing a detailed post when I accidentally deleted it. :’)
The gist was, has anyone grown these from seed and could you share your experience? The conflicting information online is overwhelming, lol. The simplest method I’ve seen is to just keep the seeds moist. I need about 9-12 trees for my aquariums (the photo is not mine, just an example of what I’m recreating). How many seeds should I order?
My plan so far is to use a seedling tray with a humidity lid, perlite as the substrate, a drainage pan with hydroponic fertilizer, and a heat mat underneath.
Thanks for your help!
If you’re aiming for 12 trees, I recommend sowing 2 to 3 times that number of seeds. This way, you can account for any failures and select the strongest seedlings as they grow, ensuring you end up with the healthiest trees.
If I have any surplus seedlings, I’ll hold onto them for an extra year or so and start training them as bonsai. The natural tall and narrow growth pattern isn’t suitable for this application, especially indoors, lol. Then, I’ll sell them to other aquascapers, which means more money to reinvest in my hobbies!
It seems these trees are meant to stay in the fishtank, so while this is usually great advice, it doesn’t quite apply here.
I absolutely love this. It’s so awesome!
This is pretty much what my yard in Florida looks like right now with all these hurricane bands (and another one coming next week). My three bald cypress trees are underwater and loving it. I haven’t been able to mow the rest of the lawn in over a month due to the flooding. Oh well, at least the egrets are happy fishing in my ponds!
Please stay safe and help your neighbors whenever you can.
Wishing you well as you face the impending weather!!
