First Kamo eggplant… how did I do?

That’s a big one! Congrats! :tada:

Thanks! Kamos are still my favorite, and we’ve added a few long ones to the mix. :slight_smile:

It looks so nice and warm in that picture! I’m stuck with snow and cold temps. Your garden is amazing—saw your previous post too. Hope next season is just as great!

That was during summer. Looking at summer photos is the only thing getting me through this winter! Lol

I’ve never seen this variety before—what a great harvest! Does it produce a lot per plant, or are they just big like this?

The one in the photo is about average size, and the plants are super productive. They’ve quickly become our favorite purple variety—dense and sweet with a great texture. Perfect for grilling or slicing!

Definitely adding this to my seed wishlist! I love cooking with eggplants—they’re so versatile.

They really are! Over the summer, we even made eggplant tortillas. So tasty!

@Robin
Fried eggplant with soy sauce and chili is one of my favorites. Also amazing in curries, pasta, or even baba ghanoush. So many recipes to try!

Absolutely agree! They’re so versatile. :heart:

Talking about this is making me hungry. I’ll need to grab some at the store tomorrow. When do you usually start planting the seeds?

We usually start at the end of February indoors (zone 7, east coast). They grow fast once the soil warms up, so timing is key. We grow lots of different shapes and sizes—it’s so fun!

@Robin
Thanks for sharing! I’m in zone 9a in the UK, and it’s been such a wet year. Might try growing them indoors too for a more stable environment.

Growing indoors first is a great idea. You can pick the strongest ones before planting outside. Good luck!

Awesome work!

Beautiful! I might have to try eggplants since my part-sun garden doesn’t work well for tomatoes or peppers.

We grow about ten plants and always have too many! Friends get tired of us offering them eggplants, so we take the extras to the food pantry.

@Robin
Ten plants?! That’s a lot of eggplants. Two plants are usually more than enough for us.

We grow extra to share. There’s a preschool nearby that helps families in need, and we love dropping off baskets for the parents. It’s our way of giving back, and it feels good to share the joy of gardening.

Great picture, and congratulations!
