Can anyone tell me what kind of bush this is and what the pruning style is called?

Sorry if the picture quality isn’t great. Thanks for any help!

That’s a Whoville-style bush.

Looks like Kid ‘n Play to me!

Or maybe Edward Scissorhands?

Hard to tell from the picture, but it might be a type of juniper. For the pruning style, try Googling ‘topiary’—that might be what you’re thinking of.

That’s it! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

@Teal
Based on the tight topiary and bark, it might be Melaleuca nesophila.

@Teal
No problem! :+1:

Looks like a juniper, and the pruning style is topiary. Specifically, this is often called ‘pompom’ topiary.

This is called ‘cloud pruning.’ It’s commonly done with junipers. Topiary is a broader term often used for pruning bushes into distinct shapes like animals or geometric forms.

At my nursery, we call this style ‘clouds.’ It’s usually done with large junipers like Mint Julep or Sea of Green. It takes at least a decade, if not more, to achieve this look.

It looks like a Dr. Seuss bush to me.

Kid ‘n Play style?

Truffula trees!

Grace Jones Shrubbery.

Try taking closer pictures of the bark and leaves for better identification.

It has a lot of personality! I hope you like it.

When pruning, make sure the top leaves don’t shade the lower ones. Otherwise, the lower branches will stop producing leaves and turn into bare twigs.

I’d call this ‘Magic Mushroom Dreams.’

Looks like a cedar to me. The cut is like a flat-top version of a ‘poodle’ style.
