Anyone else had a frost hit before stuff was ready? What would you do?

We had a weird growing season and the frost came in too early. Got a lot of unripened stuff left. Any suggestions on what to do with it?

Try putting them in paper bags by ripeness. They’ll finish ripening in the bags.

I second this! Works every time.

@Niall
Apples work too! They release something called ethylene that makes the fruit ripen faster.

Yeah, the apple trick always works for me.

They’ll ripen eventually. Also, look up recipes for green tomatoes. When I worked at a fruit stand, we’d get green tomatoes by accident sometimes, and restaurants and customers loved them. You can sell or cook them too!

Pickled green tomatoes are a thing! Popular in Eastern Europe.

Check out this link for ideas on using green tomatoes in recipes: what to do with green tomatoes You can swap them for tomatillos in green chili too.

Fry them up!

What would I do with 4 pounds of fried tomatoes though?

Batter, bread, and freeze them. Then you can refry whenever you’re in the mood!

Got friends or family that would eat them with you?

If all else fails, just eat and enjoy… or get ready for some winter weight!

Give them some time, they’ll ripen.

Fried green tomatoes are a sign! Either try them or let your hard work turn into store-bought junk. Your choice!

Alright, maybe I’ll give it a try.

Didn’t you just say ‘wtf’ about what to do with 4 pounds of fried tomatoes?

@Ben
Haha yeah, but I meant it like a ‘what am I gonna do with all these?’ kind of way. Might as well fry some since everyone’s suggesting it.

Ripen the rest with apples.
